Navigating Money Fears in your Sacred Calling
Having financial security is often the biggest challenge we face in being able to fully commit to following our heart and stepping into our sacred calling. There are so many factors, beliefs and judgements around money that affect our approach to leadership. One of the dominating paradigms that most people consciously or unconsciously administer their approach to money is from the paradigm of Poverty Consciousness.
Within this poverty mindset, we believe that scarcity, struggle and competition are the means to our survival and privilege is conferred to the lucky few. There is no sovereignty . One may feel like a cog in the wheel with no control of one’s life. I have no doubt how real these issues are whether one lives in dire states of poverty or striving hard to avoid it. I grew up in a so-called ‘Third World’ nation so have witnessed and experienced first-hand the impact of poverty and how much it affected (and to a certain extent continues to affect) my way of thinking around money. I am not downsizing this very real and life-threatening issue which to me stems from this prevailing consciousness.
However, it is not the purpose of this article to dissect nor determine the technicalities of Poverty Consciousness. Within the context of this article, I would like to invite you to consider how the ideas of scarcity, struggle, competition and luck may still be informing your own beliefs around earning money from your sacred calling. Additionally, how these beliefs are creating the resistances keeping you from your sacred calling.
The main purpose of this article is to explore our relationship to money from within Divine Feminine Christ Consciousness. And within this consciousness, abundance is already always available for all beings. Abundance has been a buzz word within New Age spirituality for some time now but beyond the razzmatazz and glamorisation lies the pure energy of Abundance:
“Abundance is the energy of permission. The more you permit yourself to desire what you want, express gratitude for what you have, and be excited for whatever comes your way, the more abundance you are bound to receive.” Matt Kahn
And so herein lies the challenge, or what I would like to relate to as a healing opportunity. There is a big gap between poverty consciousness and abundance in Divine Feminine Christ Consciousness. To step into your heart’s calling, you first have to bridge this gap, or at the very least, bring presence to the beliefs driving your money fears in your own journey. All journeys are healing opportunities, just as our relationship to money is a healing opportunity. When we begin to acknowledge who we are as Divine beings, we will always receive all the healing and support we need, including financial support to fulfil our divine contract here. We don’t know what shape this will take but we need to give ourselves the permission to believe that abundance is ours to receive.
How does one even begin to navigate our money concerns? Let’s begin by identifying our current financial situation and our sacred calling. Here are 5 potential scenarios:
1) You long to follow your passion but you have no guarantee of financial income if you followed your heart, so your passion takes a backseat and you remain in your current financially secure job.
2) You are a single mother with children to feed and you work so hard you have no energy for anything else. You accept your lot and temporarily pause on the dream.
3) You are an artist and a healer but your work has not created sustainable income and you long for some financial stability and maybe even a home to own. So, you are seriously considering a full-time job and letting go of your passion for now.
4) You are financially dependent on your partner (due to caring for children / illness / etc) and carry a lot of guilt, keeping you from your sacred calling.
5) You have experienced so many financial and other setbacks in your life that there is very little hope you feel around your dreams.
The thing is, no matter what your situation is, we are Divine Beings here on a human journey. We are healing ourselves on the way toward fulfilling the contract we made as Divine Beings to incarnate in this lifetime. Our life, whether you identify with any one of the scenarios above, is offering us our own unique and personal life journey, as Divine Beings. This human journey allows us to gather the medicine unique to us, all part of living out the contract we made to ourselves. It’s not about trying to create a perfect situation before taking the leap toward your heart’s longing. It’s not about waiting for the ideal moment or until all our ducks are in a row before we take that step on our journey. Its not about comparing who is better off or more privileged.
When we allow our life-story to feed our sacred calling, everything changes. Rather than trying to make our situation into something it is not, we work with it. When we find the healing in our stories, our situations change all by itself. All you have to do is show up and be open to receive the healing.
If Abundance is the energy of permission, what might happen if you give yourself permission to desire what you want (without the fear of money in the way)? With that same energy of permission, what might happen if you followed through with that desire?
I was a classic number 4 (from the list above). I could not free myself up to dream into what was possible UNTIL I was able to fund myself (a condition I placed on myself stemming from a poverty mindset) or at least become an equal financial contributor in our household (condition). I had many friends who lived by the ‘rule’ that even in marriage, everything was to be split equally (more conditions). Somehow, looking after children did not have sufficient financial value. As a woman, you had to be financially independent as well as be there for your children (yes, another condition).
One thing was certain - the energy surrounding my situation was certainly not of permission, instead it was about all about the energy of poverty consciousness which includes:
1) Energy of Struggle – One must work hard to receive anything
2) Energy of Guilt - I don’t deserve money unless I worked hard for it
3) Energy of Lack - Realising there’s not enough to go around so I have to work hard for it and to save most of it for a rainy day
These energies were dense and weighed a tonne. How much was my ego trying to assert these conditions that were weighing me down as opposed to allowing myself to be an instrument for divine inspiration and abundance to flow? For any flow to happen, I knew I needed to give myself permission to accept and to receive what was rightfully and divinely available in the abundance waiting for me.
Abundance is already available if only I would give myself permission to believe it is so.
In my situation, I thought if I had a part time job, I would be able to provide the income to contribute toward my family as well as start my mentoring business on the side (I was trying to change my situation). Somehow, I thought I could juggle a part time job, look after my son and manage the household as well as start my divine feminine mentoring and facilitation business. But try as I may, I could not get a job (i.e. I could not change my situation).
But here’s the thing that clinched the deal for me. I decided to start my business anyway (by staying with what my heart was guiding me toward) and I gave myself permission to receive financial and other support. I held a deep prayer that I would be given the financial support to step into my leadership even more. I expected my prayer to materialise in the form of lots of clients. Whilst I did begin to attract a few clients, the more I held this prayer, the more abundance my husband received through his job! There was a big healing opportunity for me here to release the energy of guilt, and be open to receive support from my husband. In receiving his support, I released myself the weight of this old energy that was weighing me down. And I literally felt free to invest in myself and thus, invest in my service to others as a Divine Feminine Leader in Christ Consciousness.
As you read this article, and you find yourself comparing all the ways why your situation is worse off and that you could never bridge that gap between Poverty and Abundance consciousness, I invite you to consider:
When you give yourself permission to release your attachment to the beliefs that keep you burdened by your lack of money, you are clearing the space to reconcile with the truth of who you are as a sovereign divine being. From this place of divine sovereignty, consider that YOU are the bridge. On one side of the bridge is your sacred calling. On the other, lies abundance, if you will give yourself permission to receive.
